Preliminary report season 13/14

23/02/2014 18:00

A very short review and preview for once. FC Thuns EL-adventure has allready ended. Placed fourth in the group stage, with only 3 points, may seem like a failure. But actually it isnt. FC Thun was not very fortunate in this EL-campaign. On the day of the games, the players (as individuals) were not able to fetch the qualities, that they actually have, and they were a bit unlucky aswell. But all in all, they showed some good games (especially against Partizan Belgrad and Rapid Vienna). In the national championship, FC Thun is placed in the mid-table, only a few points behind place 3 and 4, and the team is qualified for the semifinal of the Swiss Cup. So it could be much worse...

Well, there are many things, that could be said and written about this years EL-participation of FC Thun, and there would definitely also be positive things. But at the moment, I would like to focus on the present and the future.

The swiss championship

FC Thun was not able to successfully finish this seasons preliminary round. On december 15th the team lost against FC Aarau, and it was an earned defeat. Therefore, and because the preps were not very convincing either, most fans had not great expectations for the second leg. But after four games, the fans are more or less satisfied. After 22 rounds, FC Thun is placed 6th, 6 points behind place 3 and 17 points in front of place 10. But there is something, that could be much better: the away statistics. At home, FC Thun is almost unbeatable. 24 of 30 points were achieved in the Arena Thun (which is called Stockhorn Arena since this weekend). In this season, only FC Basel was able to win in Thun. If FC Thun is able to make more points away, and to keep winning at home, the team has a chance to not only stay up in the super league, but to qualify for an europan competition again. Lets wait and see...

Swiss Cup

FC Thun was able to beat Echallens, Locarno, Biel and the Grasshoppers, and is qualified for the semifinal of the Swiss Cup. On march 26th, FC Thun will play against FC Zürich at the Letzigrund. Only once in its history, FC Thun was able to reach the final (in 1955). It would historical, if FC Thun could repeat this success. There is probably only a glimmer of hope... but it shines in my heart like a solar flare....
